Squidward and Plankton barely interact since Squidward doesn't usually care about the secret formula. However, in the episodes "Sweet and Sour Squid" and "Chum Fricassee," they team up, although they remain enemies in the end. In "Sea-Man Sponge Haters Club" it’s revealed that he and Squidward are members of The We Hate SpongeBob Club along with Mrs. Puff, Bubble Bass and Incidental 154. In "Naughty Nautical Neighbors," he befriends him, because he saved his life, but quickly ditches him later.

Squilliam tries to embarrass Squidward by showing the crowd his lowly position as a cashier, but Squidward claims to own a five-star restaurant, and Squilliam agrees to take the group to dinner there, expecting this claim to be exposed as a lie. Squidward's attempts at converting the Krusty Krab into a five-star restaurant are initially unsuccessful until he gets SpongeBob to clear his mind of everything "except fine dining and breathing." SpongeBob can turn the Krusty Krab into an extremely extravagant and fancy diner. Everything goes well until Squilliam, who is admittedly impressed, asks his waiter, SpongeBob, his name. SpongeBob, having erased everything else from his mind, forgets his name and subsequently everything else, going insane and destroying the "fancy restaurant" environment, with the help of Mr. Krabs' disgusting "appetizer" coming to life.
A Life of Its Own?
Squidward does have artistic talent, but he’s just too lazy and arrogant to practice. Squidward with his real-life octopus counterpart, as seen in the book Underwater Friends. Squidward tells him to clean up the mess while he dresses up his wound.

SpongeBob really wants Squidward to visit his house, but Squidward does not want to. He says that he prefers the comfort of his own home over SpongeBob's "dirty little hovel." At the pineapple, Patrick suggests to SpongeBob to "borrow" something of Squidward's to make him come to the house to get it back. Inside his house, Squidward laments to himself that there are only three hours of his Sunday left, a Sunday that SpongeBob and Patrick had taken away, as Squidward anguishes over not even being able to read his Sunday paper. Squidward sees his Sunday paper in a messy pile on the floor with a note from SpongeBob presenting it to him. He kicks the paper and growls like a dog until he sees a new ad in the newspaper for a high-tech security system as it is seen on TV. Squilliam returns in the aptly named episode "Squilliam Returns," in which Squidward meets him and a crowd of his fans.
Squidward's house appears to have a mind of its own, usually to give a comedic effect. Squidward takes pride in his house after winning the title of House Fancy Prince from the host, Nicholas Withers in a competition against his lifelong rival, Squilliam Fancyson.

SpongeBob then gets an idea and disguises his house to look alive for the house to fall for it, and tricks it into sitting down back in its spot so Patrick can turn the switch off, which finally stops the house. Squidward thanks SpongeBob and Patrick and owes them one, and the comic ends with SpongeBob and Patrick pulling Squidward into a game of keep-away with them. Squidward's arch-rival is Squilliam Fancyson, whom he first met in high school in band class, who, like all other octopuses on the show, looks and acts similar to Squidward, but wears a robe and has a unibrow. However, unlike Squidward, Squilliam is extremely successful in everything that Squidward has failed in, and is living Squidward's dream of being a wealthy celebrity artist with crowds of adoring fans, usually with many admirers following his presence. In Squilliam's debut episode, "Band Geeks," he calls Squidward, at his home, to once again, rub his success in his face, saying that his band is signed to play at the Bubble Bowl but can’t come and sarcastically asks Squidward for his "band" to cover for them. Squidward, caught in the moment, claims that he does have a band and will play at the Bubble Bowl, forcing him to put together a band from the residents of Bikini Bottom.

"Squisery" has Squidward and Patrick becoming close friends after getting lost in the woods together. Throughout the series, Squidward is shown to have a considerable dislike towards Patrick along with SpongeBob. Whenever he walks, his suction cups stick to the floor, meaning that he walks with a distinct squelching noise.

Once the bandages are removed, he is revealed to have a new handsome face which attracts everyone in town. However, due to the unwanted and obsessive attention he is given along with invasion of his privacy, Squidward demands SpongeBob slam the door in his face again to change him back to normal. The job is done instead by Squidward falling into a pole, which gives him his original face back. Squidward is revealed to have an addiction to Krabby Patties in "Just One Bite," but he only pretended to hate them because he was embarrassed of SpongeBob finding out he likes them. His obsession with the burgers is so extreme to the point where he even eats the one he buried that's covered in sand, and resorts to eating a half-eaten patty thrown away in the garbage before SpongeBob cremates it.
While Squidward is cooking, SpongeBob steals his vacuum cleaner in order for him come to the pineapple to get it back. Squidward puts his dinner in the oven and then comes to SpongeBob's house and sees, to his shock, that SpongeBob made an exact replica of his house. Squidward is now getting very annoyed and demands his vacuum, but SpongeBob ignores him, trying to do everything he can to ensure Squidward stays. Squidward sits on the exact replica of his chair and sees his coffee table, his food, his Art of the Clarinet book, and his pillow SpongeBob was fluffing.
His talk show, Squidward Chat, is quickly retooled by a producer into Squidward's House Party. Later on, his editorial Everyone is Horrible is canceled after the first minute and replaced with Fun-Believable with Rube. However, his house has been featured on a one-house special of House Fancy. His overall artistic style is shown to be abstract and overly sophisticated, and his works are commonly panned by his audiences.
The character is portrayed as short-tempered, impatient, arrogant, sassy, introverted, condescending, bitter, and misanthropic, and he despises his two neighbors' constant disruptive antics. However, the pair are unaware of Squidward's dislike towards them and see him as a friend. Squidward works as a cashier at the Krusty Krab restaurant, a job which he does not enjoy. Meanwhile, Squidward's house rampages through downtown Bikini Bottom, and SpongeBob and Patrick turn the security system off just as the house returns to its original position, causing it to fall on top of Squidward. Squidward's Sunday relaxation time is now over, and he calmly tells them that he only wanted to enjoy his day off, and he has SpongeBob and Patrick leave so that he can get ready for work the next day. SpongeBob tries once again to apologize for earlier, but Squidward ignores him and furiously shoos and kicked them out.
